Online Nursing Degree Programs

Online Nursing Degree Programs

The healthcare industry is booming across the country. As more and more people begin to retire, the system is bursting at the scenes, and the amount of people that graduate from nursing degrees every year aren’t enough to fill the open spots. Whether you’re considering a career as a CNA, LPN, nurse practitioner or just a regular RN, now is the time to complete your degree.

The Various Types of Online Nursing Degrees

Colleges and universities across the country are just beginning to make their online degree programs more affordable to attract more students.

Whether you just graduated from high school or you’re seeking a career change, there are a variety of different types of online nursing degrees to choose from:

Bachelors or Associates in Nursing – The Bachelors of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing are the two most common types of nursing degrees. Students who plan on finishing one of these degrees are looking to start careers as registered nurses or as a nurse practitioner. They work in medical clinics, hospitals and nursing homes.
Certificate for Nursing Assistants – Individuals who want to become a CNA can take a certificate course offered online and complete the requirements in less than a year. CNAs often help with the treatment of patients in various settings. They bathe, feed and change their dressing.
Masters Degree in Nursing – An online masters degree is a convenient solution for current RNs who wish to go into a management position. Most healthcare facilities require candidates for director-level positions to complete a masters degree to be considered for a job.

Nursing Salaries: How Much Do Nurses Make?

The salary of a nurse varies greatly and depends on location, position, education and experience.

Registered nurses who hold basic nursing positions with no specialty make an average salary of $66,000 per year. Those who work in California and New York can expect to make significantly more because the demand is greater. The lower 10 percent make roughly $45,000 per year.

An LPN who has recently graduated from college and looking for their first nursing position can expect an entry level salary of $44,000 per year. With five or more years of experience, licensed practical nurses can see that salary increase to $50,000 per year.

Clinical nurses stand to make much more than both of their counterparts. A clinical nurse in the United States can expect to make an average salary of $86,000 per year. The highest 10 percent make over $120,000 and usually live in larger metropolitan areas.

CNAs who have recently graduated from a certificate program can expect an average salary of $11.00 per hour. Specialty skills in areas such as telemetry or those who have experience in the ICU or ER can expect a salary of nearly $20 per hour.

A Nursing Career is the Right Choice for You

Nursing salaries across the board continue to increase every year. Certified nursing assistants often go on to become a full fledged RN or clinical nurse after taking courses part time online.

Regardless of what type of nurse you want to be, online programs in nursing offer an affordable and flexible option to finish your degree on your time.
